They have over a thousand signatures against the route of the highway Yecla-Santomera by The Rough (19/11/2010)

Ecologists in Action and residents of the rugged landscape in Santomera delivered at the City Council record Santomera and the Ministry of Public Works and Planning, a petition signed by 1,252 citizens, against the route of the Yecla-Santomera highway passing through the publicly owned forest area of the rough, which borders the Natural Protected Landscape Area Protected "Wetland Ajauque and Rambla Salada."

Although at first the road was projected to affect agricultural areas in particular, in the current proposed route of the motorway between the towns of Yecla Santomera and appears a stretch running destroying an important part of the public forest area of the rough.

For the signatories of this application, the City and the Autonomous Region should work towards the protection of the only publicly owned forest estate owned by the municipality of Santomera, and not their destruction, which is what would this new route planned .

Ecologists in Action believes also that this infrastructure is totally unnecessary, and its construction is not justified by any technical study of traffic in the area, so look for alternatives calls for environmentally, socially and economically sustainable in the construction of same, as would an improvement of existing roads between the two municipalities, development and improvement of public transport and the development of municipal plans of Sustainable Mobility.

The environmental organization is reminiscent of the regional public institutions and local, sustainable mobility so much talk in some documents and forums, it really means to work towards less use of private motorized transport, public transportation by providing cleaner and alternative as non-motorized bicycle.

Therefore the project of building a new highway in the regional territory is totally contrary to the achievement of those objectives, especially when there is no technical justification and it is projected to affect large areas of forest are very essential in the fight against Climate Change, to be natural sinks of CO2.

From the collective signatories insist that forest area is closely linked to the Natural Protected Landscape Area Protected "Wetland Ajauque and Rambla Salada, as carried out this highway with the current route would cause serious disruptions in the ecosystem of this protected area, which is also declared SPA by the presence of a large nesting colony of Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus).

In view of the lack of technical justification of "necessity" to build this highway, and its condition to the natural areas in the Region of Murcia, Ecologists in Action has proposed to permanently dispose of this project and to seek environmental solutions and socially more sustainable and less costly to the public treasury deficit, as the improvement of existing roads and the development and improvement of public transport and the development of Municipal and Regional Planning for Sustainable Mobility.

Finally, since both groups point out that cases such as the Cartagena-Vera motorway show that they are totally unnecessary infrastructure and ultimately pose a high and unassumable economic costs, social and environmental.
